On Duty with the Toad Patrol – Yorkshire Ridings Magazine, March 2013

Yorkshire Ridings magazine this month pays tribute to volunteers from Osmotherley who respond to the urgent message: ‘the toads are on the move’.

Beware toads on the road

Beware toads on the road

Patrollers tell me that, each year, thousands of toads emerge from hibernation on the moors and trek to Cod Beck reservoir in search of a mate. And to prevent the toads being killed on the road, the volunteers scoop them up in buckets and carry them across.

Volunteers not only learn about wildlife, but see the

and stars emerge, and make friends in the spring evenings.
