Working from home, writing alone, can be a lonely job. As an antidote, I am addicted to joining groups for creative persons. I probably belong to far too many, but here are some of the groups I joined.
Thirsk Write Now
Thirsk Write Now is a local group that encourages its members in all aspects of creative writing. Members meet fortnightly, to read stories they’ve written, to an agreed theme. The fun lies in seeing the immense variety of stories that spring from the same theme.
When it was founded, many years ago, Thirsk Write Now used to meet in a pub, but since the pandemic, has moved online, and meets by zoom. I am the zoom host, should you be interested in joining us, please get in touch.
Promoting Yorkshire Authors
I am also a member of PYA, aka Promoting Yorkshire Authors, where I lead monthly online writers’ support group meetings.
At these meetings, we examine a topic, of either marketing or writing craft, do a ten-minute speed exercise, and give each other valuable peer-to-peer insight. The meetings are friendly, fun, and thought-provoking. Get in touch with PYA, or with me, to learn more.
Professional organisations
I’m also a member of a number of professional organisations, including Society of Authors, National Union of Journalists, and Authors Licensing and Collecting Society.
